McCarty calls it a career after 15 years

Darren McCartyThe long and winding road has come to an end for long-time Red Wing Darren McCarty, who announced his retirement on Monday afternoon. McCarty, a 37-year old right-handed winger who was born in Burnaby, British Columbia, was part of four Stanley Cup Red Wing teams during his 15 year career. He spent his time mostly in Detroit, but he had other stops in Calgary as well as the Flint Generals in the IHL and Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL.

Leafs stumbling continues as Kessel returns

Phil KesselPlan the parade route. The Toronto Maple Leafs have five points in their last four games, bringing their season total to a tremendous six. At this pace, they’ll be competing for 14th place in the Eastern Conference in a just a couple short weeks. With a 1-7-4 record this far into the season, the current Leafs find themselves mulling through the worst start in Toronto’s long history. There are many fans in Toronto who cannot remember – or were not alive for – the Leafs’ last Stanley Cup victory in 1967, and it already seems like 2009-10 is not the year of redemption.

Red Wings Take Series, Beat Stars

On Monday night the Dallas Stars took a 4-1 loss at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings who, with the victory, advance to the Stanley Cup finals. The Red Wings never let up from the word go, scoring three goals in the first period and one goal in the 2nd.

“We were relentless,” Kris Draper of the Detroit Red Wings said. “It was just a solid first period and obviously the difference in the hockey game. … We’re back in the Stanley Cup and it sounds great for us.”
